School Tours

A variety of tours that correspond with featured exhibits can be scheduled for all grades of school age students .   Tours usually run a length of 30-60 minutes depending on the age of students and are free of charge. Optional hands-on art activities or presentations are also available for a small fee.

Cyclorama Gallery & History Tour (currently unavailable due to expansion--reopening January 2009)

The Dahl is home to The Cyclorama Gallery, painted by muralist Bernard P. Thomas in 1974.   It is a continuous hand-painted 180 foot oil-on canvas panorama spanning 200 years of U.S. History. The experience is enhanced by special lighting and narration. This is a wonderful experience for students studying South Dakota or American history. Tour length 20-30 minutes.

                            Custom Visits

Reservations
School Tours are available Monday-Friday.  Tours are free, with an optional art activity cost at $2 per student.  Register your class for a tour by calling the Dahl at 394-4101 or email education@thedahl.org

Public & Bus Tours

For those who are interested in visiting,  public tours may be scheduled. 

Tours may include:

                            Dahl Building Tour, including a tour of all galleries
                            Gallery Talks
                            Cyclorama Mural Presentation
                            Theatre Shows
                            Custom Presentations (pre-arranged music or theatre performances)

Reservations
Group and public tours are available Monday through Saturday. To schedule your group for a tour,  call the Dahl at 394-4101 or contact education@thedahl.org  A donation of $1 per person is suggested.  Please allow at least 3 days in advance for group tours requesting a guide or docent.
